    The Brown University Bookstore Textbook Department supplies Brown University students with the course books and materials for over 700 University classes each semester. The department has a large supply of used books, roughly 35% of books offered. Buyback programs are also offered. In addition, the Textbook Department maintains the Professional/Technical Reference Department and the Medical Reference Department.

    College Hill Cafe is committed to what we call "sustainable capitalism": we strive to be a model for how 21st century businesses can marry capitalism, philanthropy, and sustainability with customer and community involvement. Blue State Coffee donates 10% of sales to local causes. We have given away over $50,000 to Rhode Island organizations like Summerbridge, College Visions, Save the Bay, Farm Fresh RI, and New Urban Arts. Proceeds from online sales support national organizations such as National Even Start and Stop Global Warming. Our customers determine how to allocate this money by voting for one of several causes.

    The Brown Bookstore hosts a variety of author readings and events throughout the year. Past readings have included Professors Gordon Wood, Howard Chudacoff , C.D. Wright, and John Wideman. Popular authors such as Jhumpa Lahiri, Howard Norman, and Dave Eggers have also read at the Brown Bookstore. Events are always posted on our website.

    Our Cub Explorers children’s program meets every Saturday at 2 pm. These programs are fun filled and educational, utilizing instructors and curators from Brown departments and museums along with community resources
